The Station Museum of Contemporary Art and Gender Reel Houston are proud to present the first screening in the Trans Film Series, a series of films selected and presented by local trans individuals. The Trans Film Series is in conjunction with Solutions, a mid-career retrospective of Cassils, a Los Angeles-based trans performance artist.
December 13th, January 10th, and February 7th at 7:00 PM.
All films will be screened at The Station Museum of Contemporary Art (1502 Alabama Street, 77004).

Beautiful Boxer is a bio-pic that tells the true story of Nong Toom/Parinya Charoenphol, a transgender Muay Thai kickboxer who competed professionally and saved championship winnings in order to fund her gender confirmation operation.
Koomah is an intersex queer genderfluid multidisciplinary grassroots artist, performer, filmmaker, LGBTQI educator and part-time hermaphrodite unicorn currently residing in Houston, Texas. Active in the arts since 2003, Koomah seeks to challenge audience’s boundaries and perceptions of sex, gender, and sexualities while encouraging audiences to ask questions, see from new perspectives, be vulnerable, and ponder social norms. Koomah is Co-founder of The Houston Intersex Society, board member of the Transgender Foundation of America, board member of the Houston Transgender Unity Committee, founding member of CHAA (LGBTQI Collective of Houston Asian Americans), member of InterACT, lead organizer of Gender Reel Houston film festival, founder of TEX-KAN ART artist retreat, former owner of MicroSpace Houston artspace, and founder of Bad Date List Houston sex worker safety resource. Koomah has performed, showcased artwork, presented workshops & lectures, and screened films across the US and internationally.
Gender Reel Houston is a collaboration of Houston-area artists with a commitment to breaking ground in transgender and gender diverse representation on screen. Gender Reel Houston highlights and celebrates the diverse experiences of transgender artists, and enhances the vitality and diversity of the arts in Houston and the Southern United States. Gender Reel Houston’s goal is to empower artists and filmmakers to continue creating works that are reflective of gender diverse experiences and identities and to help transgender filmmakers get their films to a wider audience. Gender Reel Houston 2018 is funded in part by a grant from Bunnies on the Bayou.
