The Station Museum of Contemporary Art is excited to host Paraspace Books for a pop-up shop from 1-4pm on Saturday, February 23rd. Paraspace, created and run by S Rodriguez and Sara Balabanlilar, will be taking over our bookstore area with a curated selection of books and other reading material.
Paraspace Books is a sci-fi bookstore and workshop project, directed particularly toward works by queer/trans authors, feminist authors, authors of color/black authors, and nonwestern authors. Paraspace Books received an Idea Fund grant in 2017.
Sara Balabanlilar is an arts organizer and administrator in Houston; she currently serves as the Marketing and Events Director at Brazos Bookstore and is a member of the DiverseWorks Artist Advisory Board. Her interests include creative programming in the arts and the intersection of technology, identity, and literature.
S Rodriguez is a Houston-based interdisciplinary artist and organizer, the former Exhibitions Coordinator of Art League Houston, and a current member of the DiverseWorks Artist Advisory Board. Their work most often explores the intersections of technology, the internet, and the nature of bodies – physical, digital, and linguistic.
